Water Profile Report, Al Khobar, KSA

The "Water Profile Report, Al Khobar, KSA" project, assigned by our esteemed client Ayesa, required an in-depth analysis of the underwater topography of Al Khobar's marine water bodies. This case study focuses on the Bathymetric survey we conducted to gather this essential data.

Objective: The primary goal was to create a comprehensive water profile report for Al Khobar. We focused on conducting a Bathymetric survey to understand the depth and contour of the seabed, crucial for future developments, aquatic life sustainability, and disaster prevention planning in the region.

Methodology: We employed Multi-Beam Echosounder (MBES) technology for the survey, which offers a wide swath, high resolution, and the ability to provide detailed and accurate bathymetric data.

  • Pre-survey planning: Defined the survey area, determined the survey lines, and identified potential obstacles.
  • Data acquisition: The MBES system was mounted on a survey vessel, and data were collected by sailing back and forth along the pre-determined survey lines.
  • Data processing: Raw data were processed using specialized software, with outliers removed and necessary corrections made for factors such as tide and sound speed.
  • Data visualization and analysis: The processed data were used to generate bathymetric maps and digital terrain models, which were analyzed to understand the underwater topography.

Challenges and Solutions:

  • Weather conditions: Surveying accuracy was affected by challenging weather, mitigated by choosing calm weather periods and applying weather correction algorithms during data processing.
  • Marine life interference: Large quantities of marine life interfered with the echosounder signals, addressed by adjusting the echosounder frequency and employing post-survey data filtering techniques.

Outcomes: The survey successfully provided a comprehensive map of the seabed in the Al Khobar region. The data is being used to inform decisions on marine infrastructure developments, environmental conservation, and hazard mitigation plans. The results also contribute to local scientific research and provide a baseline for future monitoring efforts.

Conclusion: Our commitment to accuracy and innovation helped overcome challenges and meet the project's objectives. Our team is proud to contribute to the sustainable development and environmental protection of Al Khobar. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Ayesa and offering our expertise in future projects.
